Higger Tor - Peak District Walk
Sunday 30th March 2014
Whilst discussing possible routes with John for today's walk he expressed a desire to viist Higger Tor, a walk I usually do when he is working. The views were somewhat limited possibly due to the air pollution that was heading towards the UK from the Sahara and Europe.
Start: Upper Burbage Bridge (SK 2601 8298)
Route: Upper Burbage Bridge - Burbage Rocks - Burbage Bridge - Longshaw Estate - Mother Cap - Higger Tor - Fiddler's Elbow - Upper Burbage Bridge
Distance: 5.5 miles Ascent: 286 metres Time Taken: 3 hours 25 mins
Terrain: Clear paths
Weather: Warm but very hazy.
Pub Visited: Millstone Inn, Hathersage Ale Drunk: Black Sheep Bitter
We timed our arrival at the car park well, as someone was just leaving. It's normally much quieter when I walk here.
Looking back along Burbage Rocks and the views are somewhat restricted.
Even Carl Wark and Higger Tor are almost lost in the mirk.
I certainly hadn't expected to return here quite so soon, but we decided to walk to Mothers Cap and this was the easiest way to it.
The area around here was full of families out enjoying the warm weather.
It had threatened to brighten up as we sat having lunch, but sadly that never happened. Our route to Higger Tor from Over Owler Tor was along the clear path ahead.
As ever the best view of Carl Wark is from Higger Tor.
The final stretch would take us over Fiddler's Elbow with no hope of the haze lifting before we got back to the car.
